Live 8 Canada - Barrie, Park Place
The Canadian Live 8 concerts were hosted in Barrie,
Park Place. (Park Place, formally known as Molson Park seats 36,000 and
is one hour from Toronto. The Canadian leg of the Live 8 event was originally
scheduled for Toronto, but later changed due to scheduling conflicts.)
This Live 8 concert began at 11 a.m. and ended close to 8 p.m. It was
hosted by comedians Dan Aykroyd and Tom Green.
Veteran rocker Neil Young raised the roof on Ontario’s
baking hot Live 8 Toronto. His emotional comeback after an illness was
much anticipated and long awaited. Toronto born Young was back on stage
at Live 8 with stars like Barenaked Ladies, Blue Rodeo, Bruce Cockburn,
Bryan Adams, The Bachman Cummings Band, Deep Purple, just three months
after an brain aneurysm. Among the celebs were comic Dan Akroyd and movie
star Tom Green who arrived to the Live 8 Canada event on his Harley. Other
acts at the Live 8 Barrie concert were DobaCaracol featuring Kna'an, Gordon
Lightfoot, Great Big Sea, Jann Arden, Les Trois Accords, Motley Crue,
Our Lady Peace, Sam Roberts, Simple Plan, and The Tragically Hip.
The Live 8 crowd of 35,000 danced and sang their way through the four
hour event and groups of fans stayed afterward to party and celebrate;
doing their bit to raise awareness for Africa. Memories of this historical
day will be available here on the Live 8 Canada DVD. The USA and London
