. . . In the words of Bob Geldof . . .

"We've never been wealthier,
we've never been healthier,
we know what it costs,
we know what to do....do it!"

Live 8 - Who is promoting Live 8?

After much speculation due to the release of the Live Aid DVD box set, Bob Geldof (Live Aid promoter) is in the spotlight again. Inspired by the 1984 hugely successful Live Aids concert and the recent Band Aid re-recording of the song "Do They Know It's Christmas?", Bob Geldof has again decided to make a solid stance against poverty in Africa - Live 8 concerts.  On May 31, 2005 Bob Geldof announced that a series of concerts called Live 8 will be staged in London, Philadelphia, Paris Rome and Berlin. These concerts will be available on multiple stations including BBC, AOL, and MTV

Live 8 Concerts - Who was there?

The Live 8 concerts featured a who's-who of musicians, performers and artists including Pink Floyd, U2, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Madonna, Bryan Adams, Sting, Velvet Revolver, Snoop Dog, Motley Crue, The Cure, The Who and many many more.

Live 8  - What's at stake?

The Live 8 concerts were designed to raise awareness and pressure the G8 into making a positive decision about dropping debt and making fair trade laws with Africa.

"G8" is an acronym for Group of Eight. The Group of Eight refers to the US, Japan, Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Canada and Russia. (Formally known as the G7 before Russia officially joined in June 2002.)

The G8 is the most influential group of developed countries in terms of its role in the setting policy in the international financial system. These world's top industrialized nations who meet periodically to discuss global trade, investment, and other financial topics, met this July 6 through July 8th 2005 in Scotland for the G8 Summit.

As a climax to the Live 8 concerts scheduled on Saturday July 2, Bob Geldof urged people to unite in support this of this monumental cause and join the Long Walk of Justice.

( The Long Walk of Justice was the title given to the march that was scheduled on July 2th in Edinburgh. On July 6th, 2005 a final concert was held in Scotland.)

In addition to attending these concerts, Bob Geldof is urged people to make a donation through the purchase of a "White Band".

The white band made of neoprene or cloth is designed to show solidarity and support. To learn about the "White Band"
