Live 8 London: UK concert review (cont.)

Bono, McCartney, kick off the Live 8 London concert

Bono and Paul McCartney were a fantastic pair-off to start the longest concert that I was ever to be a part of. When Bono and Paul McCartney came out the crowd went absolutely wild. I don't imagine that the video or broadcast of Live 8 London could possibly catch the heightened excitement in that crowd. They hit the stage with the roar of "Sgt. Peppers Lonely-Hearts Club Band". I was floored because I had been told that Paul McCartney had not performed that song in a very long time and you could never tell from the look on his face. Bono did an awesome job for this duet that started our day.

At the original Live Aid concert, Paul McCartney had lost his microphone feed and the audience could barely hear him. I am soooo glad I was able to hear him today.

Up next, a fairly new band Coldplay. (at least fairly new to my music collection). Coldplays contribution to Live 8 London was absolutely flawless. They played to a sea of faces with the extraordinarily popular song "In My Place". They are wonderful to hear live, but thankfully they did not duplicate their album sound.

They were sound joined by Richard Ashcroft in a huge wave of applause. They did a duet of a track titled "Bitter Sweet Symphony". It made me immediately want to go out and buy a Verve CD.

I should have gone for a bathroom break when Elton John hit the stage with a very forgetable "The Bitch is Back". The bitch indeed. Maybe it should have been the fat blotted queen is back for Live 8 London. I don't know who is advising 'ol Elton, but these songs were pretty mediocre.

Elton played the original Live Aid concert and he was astonishing. Elton John did a duet with George Michael and it was a magical moment. No magic here as he followed up with a sorry "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting". But that is not all, the lowlight of Live 8 London came with a duet between Elton John and Pete Doherty. What an utter disaster. "Children of the Revolution" was not my favorite track and watching the two murder the song made me wish that someone would fingersnap them off the stage.
