8 London: UK concert review (cont.)
Live
8 London Rocks On
It seemed so weird to
talk about the problems in Africa today and then go showing
a video about Africa using footage that was 20 years old.
I didn't get it. That was all swept under the carpet with
the introduction to Birhan Woldu. She was a child in the video
that was near death at the time and it was this footage that
caused Bob Geldof to act by starting the "Do They Know
It's Christmas?" record campaign that led to Live Aid.
The next three numbers
hit hit home as Madonna began her set with Birhan Woldu still
on stage as she sang "Like a Prayer". Life is a
mystery for sure. Madonna was great and I remember her being
at the original Live Aid concert in 1985.
Next up, Snow Patrol did
two of their numbers "Chocolate" and "Run".
They were tight and performed well.
I am sad to report that
I was a bit disappointed in The Killers. They only played
one song "All These Things I've Done". The crowd
has just realized that they had finished their song and in
no time they were off the stage. What a joke. They should
have given them more time up on stage. It was as if they'd
only just came on... then went off. A shame, as they are generally
so good. However they picked the right song to follow Madonna
with a hugely popular chorus. The Killers took the crowd to
town in their all too short five minute set.
My heart went pitter-patter
as the foxy Joss Stone walked on stage. That girl is a looker
and boy can she sing. If thing don' work out with Africa,
I am sure that like Madonna, she'll be around for Live 8 Part
4.
The Scissor Sisters did
their thing at Live 8. I didn't know until today what the
name of their band was all about. Something about lesbians
and bumping the fuzzies. I dunno, I guess I'll have to look
it up when I get home. Sounds kinda kinky.
I am sorry to report that
Velvet Revolver's set was totally forgettable. The songs were
sounded too much the same. Slash can play a guitar, I have
to give him that, but the band didn't do too much for me.
I remember the good 'ol days when Slash was playing with G'N'R.
It's all down hill now.
