Live
8 Toronto - Complete Review by
Casey Wright
I am here reporting from
Barrie, Canada at the Live 8 Toronto concert. The people of
Barrie are hospitable enough, letting all the press and outsiders
call their city Toronto. For those not physically attending
the Live 8 Canada event, I should note that Barrie is NOT
Toronto. They are about an hour apart from each other. It's
kind of like calling Los Angeles - Mexico. I guess it's not
a big deal unless you're from in Barrie.
It is a wonderfully warm summer day. The skies
are clear baby blue, with hardly a puffy white cloud in sight.
It looks likes it will be a hot here at Live 8 Toronto, but
comfortable enough for a concert. At least it isn't raining
like it did at Woodstock 2. It would be kinda fun if we had
Live 8 Toronto dancing and singing in the mud as if they were
a bunch of pigs, but it doesn't look like that'll happen.
As we were approaching Park Place on the highway,
you can that there are four enormous cranes. On the way into
the park, I found out from the radio that each crane is connected
to a special video camera unit. Apparently, these were units
were brought in from out of state and they will be capturing
all the performers from many angles. I am guessing that the
rights to the Live 8 DVD set have already been bid on, and
sometime in November or December, we will be seeing the Live
8 Toronto DVD set up for sale. It would be cool to tell my
friends that I am on the DVD. I hope they will include ALL
the acts. (I know that last year when they released the Live
Aid concert DVD, but it was missing about 6 hours.) I truly
wonder if any of the money will go toward helping out in Africa.
They kept repeating that it is all about "Justice"
this time around.
We slowly crawled with the long line of cars
into Park Place. I am surprised by how polite and orderly
the folks in cars are being, considering the traffic here
at Live8. I guess the idea of being part of this global Live
8 concert event is adding to their good spirits. There is
lot of young hot looking girls and young tuffs sporting low
cut shirts and tank tops for Canada's Live 8 today. 35,000
or so Canadians joined in to the Live 8 fray to show their
support sporting temporary Canadian flag tattoos and white
strip banners emblazoned with the words "abolissions
la pauvrete" Make Poverty History.
The concert line up seems solid enough. It
would have been great if the Rolling Stones had followed through
with the rumor and treated Live 8 Toronto with a guest appearance.
Who knows, they still might show up.
