Live
8 Canada: Toronto review (cont.)
Neil
Young Brings Live 8 Toronto to a Close
It's 7:54 pm and the Live
8 stage is set now for rocker Neil Young. The surroundings
seem ideal, it's getting dark and even though I have been
on my feet for more than 9 and a half hours, I could stand
though 20 of Neil's' best tracks. They are showing video of
Neil Young from backstage on the giant monitors.
He opens his set with Ian and Sylvia's track
"Four Strong Winds." The crowd is suspicious at
first, but by the end, the audience is clapping along with
this number. Neil sits at the piano for a lamenting version
of "When God Made Me". The track is a great classic
number and the backing choir is a nice touch. I was a little
sickened to see that some girl decided that this was a great
moment to go topless. They of course included her briefly
on the large monitors for all the world to see. What a classless
bimbo.
Neil Young brought an end to the global Live
8 concert in Canada with a rousing edition of "Keep on
Rockin' In The Free world" and "Oh Canada".
A fitting end to a stellar concert. I was happy to take part
in the Live 8 event and the fans leaving the park were as
cordial going out as they were coming in.
I left hapy knowing that most of the 35,000
people that took part in this event would remember why they
were there, and why they took part in Live 8. Three points:
1. Double the aid sent to the world's poorest
countries.
2. Fully cancel their debts.
3. Change the trade laws so that they can build their own
future.
If things work out, we will have made a difference at Live
8.
