Noa at Live 8
Born in Israel in 1969. Ahinoam Nini roots stretch
back to the ancient jewish community in yemen.
Her grandparents moved to Israel in the 1920s where her parents were born.
At two years old her parents moved to the bronx, New York, where She ended
up spending the first 16 years of my life. It was during the early years
that Ahinoam Nini learned her appreciation for music. She actually started
writing short songs by age 7. She wrote and sang about god, cockroaches,
and trees.
At age 17 she returned to Israel. Ahinoam Nini spent two years in the
israeli military. She past her time singing for soldiers. After the military,
she spent a year at the 'Rimon' School of Music. It was here that she
met Gil Dor.
In 1990 she and Gil did a duet in the festival in Tel-Aviv. It was during
this time that she and Gil bonded and have been working together ever
since. She began performing under the name Noa.
Noa's career together with Gil Dor has seen three international albums,
four israeli albums, and hundreds of concerts throughout the world. She
has hadendless encounters with wonderful people. She has been lucky enough
to sing the Pope, Steven Spielberg, Bill Clinton, and Yitzhak Rabin. She
has also been on stage with Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, Sting,
Quincy Jones, Sheryl Crow and many others.
Noa's strongest musical influences are Leonard Cohen Joni Mitchel, James
Taylor, and Paul Simon. Noa is a big fan of poetry, especially Octavio
Paz and E.E. Cummings.
